Anandi Gopal (2019)

Planning to be wed off in a child marriage to Gopalrao Joshi (Lalit Prabhakar), Anandi (Bhagyashree Milind) is ‘trained’ by her parents to behave as per her to-be husband’s wishes. While the parents know Gopalrao, a postmaster serving in the British government, to be an eccentric person, they don’t know that what they call eccentric is in fact Gopalrao’s progressive thoughts. A staunch opposer of traditions and orthodox beliefs, Gopalrao puts only one condition for accepting the marriage- that he will educate Anandi. Despite her parents’ initial hesitance, they agree. At Gopalrao’s insistence, Anandi starts reading books, learning tables and, gradually, English. Though she sees all this as compulsion at first, a sad incident in the couple’s life changes things and makes Anandi determined to pursue higher education and become a doctor.
